Kenneth Carl Valentine

Kenneth Carl Valentine, 71, of Tamaroa, passed away at 7:25 A.M., Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Kenny was a retired trucker for Taylor Brothers Welding Service in Tamaroa. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tamaroa. He was former Mayor of Tamaroa.  He had been a Tamaroa fireman for 42 years.  He also served as a member of the Tamaroa Grade School and High School boards.  He was a member of the Southern Illinois Coalbelt Firefighters Association.  He was a member of the Tamaroa American Legion.  He was a lifetime member of the United Steelworkers of America.  He had been a Khoury league baseball coach for many years.  He was a US Army veteran of the Korean conflict.
He was born June 7, 1930 at Pinckneyville, Illinois, the son of Karl and Rose (Bathon) Valentine.
He married Lucille M. Nehrkorn on November 6, 1952 at Cairo, Illinois and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Tamaroa, 4 sonsRichard Valentine, Allen Valentine and wife Peggy, Mark Valentine and wife Judy, and Ronald Valentine and wife Diane, all of Tamaroa, one sisterIlene Suda of Las Vegas, NV, two brothersHarold Valentine and wife Virginia and Howard Valentine and wife Marge, both of Pinckneyville, special cousinJack Phillips of DuBois, 5 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister-Alene Skurat.
Funeral service was at 10:00AM, Friday, February 22, 2002 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Tamaroa with Msgr. Melvin Vandeloo officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 PM, Thursday at Searby Funeral Home, Tamaroa.  The Rosary was recited at 4:30PM at the funeral home.
Interment was at the Tamaroa Cemetery.
